Community & Voter Outreach

This project seeks to expand voter awareness and participation in Georgetown County.

This includes community service projects, voter registration, letter-writing, canvassing, and "get-out-the vote" activities.  These ongoing efforts and special events are updated on our "News Blog" page. Volunteers always welcome!  NOW throughout  2021-Outreach Canvassing. Call us to find out how to volunteer!

Candidate Recruitment & Support

The goal of this initiative is to let no elected office be uncontested by a Democratic candidate, to seek out candidates and provide logistical support as needed. Know someone who'd be a great candidate?

Ongoing Work
Our top priority project for 2021 is to intensify voter outreach and education.  Check our NEWS BLOG or the "GET INVOLVED" tab to see how you can help.

Vida Miller Scholarship

The GCDP established this scholarship fund in 2011 in recognition of Rep. Vida Miller's advocacy for public education.  It is awarded each spring to a graduating high school senior.

The recipient is chosen via an essay contest.  The topic is chosen by it's relevance to civics and engagement in our democracy.  Judges are retired educators, journalists, and officials from across the county.

Donations are gratefully accepted throughout the year. Click the "Donate" tab to find out how or contact Nancy Kolman at (843) 240-3396. 2019 Winner: Shomari Winns,  Georgetown High School

Youth Civic Engagement

This ongoing project is steered by a committee who work within the community to find ways to engage & educate students and young people in the democratic process and to recruit young Democrats to volunteer with us.  Recently, the committee is worked to expand the "Kids Vote" program to all county precincts.  This is a series of civics lessons culminating in a mock vote on election day where children can vote while their parents do.   The committee is also working to partner with college student organizations to engage young people in civic life and recently sponsored 2 students to attend Optimism Mentoring Services Summer Leadership Camp.
